About the Burnham
Chris Burnham
located in Chicago, IL
natured & nurtured by Robert & Gretchen Burnham

Don't let the smile and the beard fool you. I was not a member of the folk rock group, America, I always wear shoes, and I see no reason why we can't make love AND war.

Beyond that, I draw pictures for a living, I can say the alphabet backwards faster than you can say it forwards, and I have never worked in food service. I think the rest is self-explanatory.

Boston Blackie: Bloody Shame collects two 48-page pulse pounding potboilers starring the original gentleman thief, Boston Blackie. Broken Frontier says that my "inky pages impart the claustrophobia and violence of prison life very well," and calls the prison riot finale "breathtaking." Woo! I'll take it!

Comiculture
is the critically acclaimed brainchild of industry vet Spectromatic Steve Buccellato. He was kind enough to bring me along for the ride, and I turned in one of my favorite stories ever, a pirate tale I both wrote and illustrated entitled "Suffer the Salt." But don't just take my word for it - check out some of the critical praise that still has me blushing!

"Burnham’s art is wonderfully moody, and his writing is clear and moves quickly. I want to find more comics by him."
Jason Sacks, Silver Bullet Comic Books

"...lavishly illustrated... educational and entertaining."
Randy Lander, The Fourth Rail

Maybe I spoke too soon - the guy at What I'm Reading Now didn't like it and didn't even mention me! Now that's just cold.

Once you've devoured every last page, shoot me an email and let me know what you think! Thanks!

X-Men: Divided We Stand #2

I did it, ma! I broke into Marvel! You can see the results for yourself on May 21st, when X-Men: Divided We Stand #2 hits the stands! I did a pretty awesome 8-pager written by Dwayne Swierczynski and colored by Nathan Fairbairn. You can check out a two page preview HERE. Scroll down about halfway - the guy with the pink lightning fist is Bishop ala Burnham.

Chicago Tribune

I made the cover of today's Tempo section in The Chicago Tribune! Why did I split the link up into three parts, you ask? 'Cuz the article's split up into three parts!

Now that I've conquered the Chicago media, the only place left to go is national! Cross your fingers extra tight that Entertainment Weekly will review Nixon's Pals!

Who Can Save Us Now?

I just finished 22 chapter illustrations for Who Can Save Us Now?, a book of superheroic short fiction edited by Owen King and John McNally and published by Free Press, a division of Simon & Schuster. I'm swimming with the big fish now, buddy!

Time Out Chicago

The March 27-April 2 edition of Time Out Chicago has a great one-page feature on me and Nixons Pals that really captures the Burnham Experience. I come off pretty well and it gave me a chance to get one of my personal mottoes into print! Which one? Read it and find out!

Stay tuned for my next shot at Chicago stardom in an upcoming edition of The Chicago Tribune! Seriously.

Nixon's Pals Update!

Due to an unforseeable mixup at the printers, Nixon's Pals has been delayed until April 16th

Until then, you can busy yourself by following me on the internet PR trail. Read the press release and check out 11 pages of art at Newsarama and be sure to scroll down to read the comments by some of comicdom's latest and greatest! Listen to my first-ever podcast interview on Comic Geek Speak! My bit starts about 1/3 of the way through the show. And check out my second attempt at interview gold on The Crankcast, the only podcast that I've ever liked enough to listen to every single episode!

Nixon's Pals

The wait is nearly over! I have finally finished up work on Nixon's Pals, the graphic novel that I am calling "the reason that vision was invented," has my nephew gibbering "buppp gaa'ahh snert! Heehee" (translation: SHIT! I wish I could read so I could devour every last page of this masterpiece!) and has my mom saying "Christopher, I thought we raised you better than this!"

Nixon's Pals is about a parole officer for supervillains and is the greatest work to date from both me and my esteemed colleague, Joe Casey. And considering that this is a guy who has written Superman, X-Men, WildC.A.T.S. 3.0, and G0DLAND, that's saying a whole hell of a lot!

If you like your triumph mixed with tragedy, your street-level intrigue mixed with super-powered violence, and your breasts mixed with eyepatches and Roy-Tan cigars, then Nixon's Pals is your new reason for living! It's 120 pages of non-stop brilliance for just $12.99. Call up your local comic book shop and pre-order Nixon's Pals today!

Fear Agent

Mark your calendars! April 30th will live in Burnhamesque infamy, because that's when A Mammoth Undertaker, an 8-page story that I both wrote and drew, is slated to appear in the pages of Fear Agent: Hatchet Job #5 (aka Fear Agent #21) from Dark Horse Comics! If I'm not tooting my horn too loudly, it may just be the greatest Fear Agent story ever written, and it ain't drawn too shabbily, neither! Wanna see?

24-Hour Comicbook

In October, I was present for the world's first 24-Hour Comic Podcast. The Crankcast joined forces with AroundComics to talk about comics, movies, porn, and whatever else came to mind. I sat in a corner and created a 24-Hour-Comic Book... that's Scott McCloud's challenge to write, pencil, ink and letter a 24-page comic in 24 hours! Check mine out HERE! Beware, there's bad words and naughty bits.
